EDIT :
Thank you for all the replies! Gheez, this is more complicated than I thought. x_X
Still wish the printshop's printers could convert the pictures just like my own printer does and deliver good results. I thought if my cheap printer can produce decent prints with RGB-files then it should be no problem for professional printshops. But apparently I was wrong. Damn.

Okay, I know that RGB-colours are for digital display on computer monitors and CMYK for printing.
When you switch from RGB to CMYK a lot of colours vanish and the result looks different, monochromatic, pale and just not as bright and flashy as the original RGB-picture. Because CMYK has a smaller colour palette and printers just can`t print all the colours which exist in RGB-mode.
I understand that.
What I don't understand is that even my cheap printer can print my RGB-pictures and the results are very satisfying.
What I also don't understand is that everywhere I look, in magazines, books, posters, flyers, etc. there are bright flashy colours, exactly those colours which were said to not exist in CMYK-mode.
Can someone please explain to me how that works? Hearing everywhere CMYK MUST be used for printing, has less colours than RGB and yet seeing those flashy RGB-colours on printed things everywhere? Because it really doesn't make sense to me.
I ask because I need to convert illustrations to CMYK for printing and they turn out horrible in that mode. X|
